Ongoing Support to Choose the Right Book
I don't know about your students, but getting mine to read a book that they are interested and that is at their reading level is always a challenge...even after I do a perfect lesson (see Book Selection post and posters). We know that gradual release of responsibility is essential and some students need more scaffolds than others.
I created the following bookmarks as a way to help students select appropriate books for independent reading. The bookmark includes a list of questions students can ask themselves to guide their book selection for independent reading. They are also great questions for you to ask the students to assess their ability to choose the "right book".
