Two girls: Hari and Shivundri. Shivundri looks at Hari with reverence, like the others. And with a bit of envy for her goddess luck and sad beauty. Hari looks at Shivundri and sees a girl like her, who dreams of climbing the grinko. Then their lives get mixed up. At last, black as night, round and mute, the beetle arrives.

Teacher Comment(s):

"I was delighted by this story. It's theme of wanting what you don't have is universal. This tale of an unexpected friendship has a wonderful ending. It would be a great read-aloud addition to a classroom library. "
