Mario Molina is a Mexican-American scientist and modern-day hero who helped solve the ozone layer crisis of the 1980s. He grew up in Mexico City and as a child was curious about the hidden worlds that he studied through a microscope. As a young man, already living in California, he discovered that chlorofluorocarbon, or CFC, which is used in millions of refrigerators and aerosols, was blowing a hole in the ozone layer that protects the Earth. Mario had to alert the world ... and fast! Mario was awarded the Nobel Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
