10 Fast Facts about Frida Kahlo!

To celebrate Frida Kahlo's birthday July 6th, we are providing you with some Frida facts! Check out our collection of Frida books here!

1. She surrounded herself with exotic pets and included them in her paintings.

2. A tragic vehicle accident led to her painting career. She broke her spinal column, collarbone, ribs, and pelvis, fractured her right leg in 11 places, and dislocated her shoulder. Those severe injuries left her racked with pain for the rest of her life, and frequently bedbound.

3. Frida was a bisexual.

4. She had a chaotic marriage to Diego Rivera...twice.

5. She was disabled due to polio she caught at age 6.

6. Her painting is the first work by a 20th century Mexican artist to be purchased by an internationally renowned museum, the Louvre.

7. Frida once arrived to an art show in an ambulance.

8. In 2016, her 1939 painting Dos desnudos en el bosque (La tierra misma) sold for over $8 million, the highest action price paid for any work by a Latin American artist.

9. Her dream job was to be a doctor.

10. She died at the age of 47 and years after her death is when she truly became famous.
