Asia, Africa, Europe: Antonio's ancestors collided and mixed on the beautiful island of Cuba. The country fights to become independent from Spain. African slaves and Chinese debt bondage are forced to work long hours, breaking their backs in the fields.

That's why Antonio feels lucky to have gotten a job as a courier, making his rich cultural mix an advantage. Through his work he meets Wing, a young Chinese fruit seller who barely escaped the anti-Asian riots in California, and his sister Fan, a talented singer. With injustice surrounding them everywhere, the three friends have decided that in these times of violent rebellion and slavery, weapons are not the only way to gain freedom.

Disturbing as well as beautiful, this is the story of a boy who became a champion of the civil rights of those who could not speak for themselves.
